Effects of Methamphetamine and Crystal Meth Addiction in Oregon on the Gay Population

A study conducted by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration on 54 people who identified themselves as lesbians, gays, transgendered people, bisexuals or heterosexually identified men who had sex with men showed that 64% of these people used methamphetamine and crystal meth actively. This number is also reflective in the statistics of methamphetamine addiction in Oregon. The problem is so rampant in various areas of Oregon that it has necessitated the opening of various centers for meth rehab in Oregon that are targeted specifically at the gays and other people of the LGBT community.

The main intention of these special gay meth rehab centers is to find a proper solution to the various factors that cause this addiction in the community. Methamphetamine is known to have an aphrodisiacal effect. When a person consumes methamphetamine, his or her sexual libido is known to increase, at least immediately after the consumption. Due to this reason, the drug has become quite popular on the gay scene in the state.

But this brings in its own problems too. The people who indulge in meth addiction will soon become reckless. Since methamphetamine and crystal meth in Oregon are used primarily in groups of people, there is a high chance that these people will involve themselves in unsafe sexual practices with each other. This could increase the risk of HIV infection in these people.

It is found that 46% of all gay people who are into a meth substance abuse in Oregon are HIV infected. Nothing more needs to be said once you have this figure right in front of you here.
