Why is Methamphetamine and Crystal Meth Addiction in Michigan on the Rise?
In the last ten years, Michigan has seen a tremendous increase in its methamphetamine and crystal meth addiction. The drug has been steadily increasing in the state at a quite fast rate and that is what has made the issue more serious. Also, methamphetamine addiction in Michigan is more prevalent in the youth. When a person begins methamphetamine, or any drug for that matter, early on in life, there are many more chances that the person will get addicted to the substance. Since the Michigan youth are starting out with methamphetamine early on in life, it is highly likely that they will become total addicts for the drug and will find it very difficult to come out of it.
There are two main reasons why the prevalence of methamphetamine in Michigan is on the rise. First, the drug is coming in quite easily from the other states through trafficking, even through rules are quite strict. Interdiction points on the highways have been set up and there is a constant patrolling on the state border lines, but wily traffickers manage to bring in methamphetamine within the state form the other states through the roadways, mostly carrying it on their person.
The second reason is the presence of the numerous meth labs within the state. These labs operate clandestinely and produce methamphetamine to the tune of up to ten pounds a day each. This is then distributed in the various nightclubs and other youth-oriented areas of the state.
Thankfully, the amount of crystal meth in Michigan is on the decline. This is a purer form of methamphetamine which produces a stronger reaction than methamphetamine does. But, mainly due to seizure of several meth labs in recent years, its prevalence is dwindling.
