A Serious Concern for Alcohol Abuse and Alcohol Addiction in New York-Underage Drinking
Underage drinking has proven to be the most severe aspect of the problem of alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction in New York. Underage drinking by definition refers to the alcohol consumption of people who are below 18 years of age, but in New York, it is seen that several children of the age of 10 years are beginning an alcohol habit, which becomes a full fledged dependency by the time they reach 12 years of age.
This is a very unhealthy sign for the state for various reasons.First, it needs to be kept in mind that if the children begin their alcohol habit at a younger age, there are many more chances that it will develop into a stronger addiction that they will find very difficult to come out of. Statistics on alcohol addiction in New York show that the children who begin alcohol around the age of 15 years have four times as many chances of becoming an alcohol addict than the people who begin an alcohol habit at the age of 21 years. Since the children in New York are beginning alcohol much earlier than most other states, it is also true that this state is now producing more alcohol addicts per year than most other states.
Further statistics from the state of New York indicate that 4 in every five children below the age of 18 years have already experienced their first alcoholic drink. This immense problem does not affect only the children alone, but is also a serious cause of distress to the parents of the children, their educators and the law enforcing agencies. It is little wonder that alcohol abuse in New York has caused a high rate of teenage crime including DUI, juvenile pregnancies, alcohol influenced violence and many more.
