Alcohol Abuse-Just Another Substance Abuse
Alcohol is almost a social drink in most modern societies today. How many novels and books have we read in which the most classic conversations have taken place over drinks? And that is the major problem with alcoholism.
So hyped and celebrated is alcohol as a mature drink that many do not even understand that alcohol is actually bad for health. Many individuals also are in constant denial of their alcoholism, simply because they find it very difficult to believe that they are addicted to what is known widely as a social drink. However, we should understand that alcohol addiction is dangerous to health, whether in the short run or the long run does not matter, but is dangerous to health.Another reason that alcohol abuse is not found out early is that not everyone gets addicted to alcohol. One person may not get addicted even if he has binges everyday and another may get addicted even if he has a single drink. The stamina to drink differs from person to person.
One can safely say that a person is addicted to alcohol if their drinking habits interfere with their professional and personal lives. Of course, this does not mean that if a person drinks once in a while and does not turn up for work the next day it means alcoholism. Alcoholism can be defined as a chronic interference of the drinking habits into the personal and professional life of a person. Alcohol also makes the list of the substance abuse, because of the incessant dependency one has on it after a while.
