About Short and Long Term Drug Abuse Programs in Residency Treatment Centers
Drug rehab centers work in several different ways. Most people think that a drug rehab program is only about drug detoxification when the drug is removed from the body and the person is assisted in coping with the withdrawal symptoms, but in reality, it is much more serious than that.
A drug rehab is also into a lot of counseling and training the person on the right kind of lifestyle that will help keep him or her away from drugs in future.Drug rehabilitation centers plan out several programs to help their patients. There are short term and long term programs. Both of these pertain to residency programs where inpatient addiction treatments are provided. The short term programs are not actually short but they are fixed term programs. This is because a person taking up one of these programs is allowed to go for a month, two month or three month program at the treatment center. He or she will be retained in the center for that period of time, and discharged when that period is over. The rule of the thumb is that the longer the period a person selects for inpatient treatment, the better are the chances for constructively restructuring his or her life.
Long term programs can last from nine months to a year. Here, the addicts are made to live in a community like setting with other people following a very healthy lifestyle. One important difference in a long term program is that, after the initial detox, individual care is not provided, but the community of people is allowed to live constructively and mingle together as a whole.
