Alcohol Abuse a Sobering Thought

We hear everyday about a fatal car accident that results in severe injury or even death, but what about deaths related to alcohol that don’t even involve motor vehicle accidents? According to the National Center for Health Statistics, more then 21 thousand people died from alcohol.
None of these were from car crashes. None of these were from a bar fight that got out of control. This is strictly alcohol. More then 12.5 thousand people died from liver disease caused by alcohol. That’s more then 33 thousand people. That’s more people then some cities have. So in essence, alcohol killed a whole city. With these numbers, this might be considered an epidemic. Knowing this, we should do everything in our power to control the outbreak and get those who are suffering from the disease the treatment they so desperately need. What is available for those suffering from alcoholism? Many treatment centers offer intervention services, detoxification programs, and counseling. It is never too late to take action.
It is also important to remember that alcohol addiction has no gender boundaries, has no age boundaries and certainly has no class preferences. In other words, an addiction doesn’t care if you are black, white, young, old, poor or rich. An 80-year-old woman can be an addict just as much as teenager can. Treatment centers should be able to cater to anyone with an addiction. And everyone has the same right to get addiction treatment. Your loved one has the right to get treatment too. Don’t let them become another statistic. Talk to them.
